About

Welcome to Project SEARCH!

Your Future Starts Here.

Project SEARCH is a one‑year program that helps young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities get ready for the workplace during their last year of high school. It’s hands‑on, exciting, and built to help you learn real job skills that lead to a career you enjoy.

Why Project SEARCH?

Leaving high school is a big step—and getting ready for a job can feel even bigger. Project SEARCH gives you the support, practice, and confidence you need to find a job you enjoy and can succeed in.

For the past ten years here in the Black Hills, many interns have finished the program and gone on to earn long‑term jobs they’re proud of.

Learn on the Job—Every Day

The best part of Project SEARCH is that you learn through experience.

Our host business is Monument Health, where interns spend most of their day working in different departments. You’ll be on site about six hours each day, learning new skills and discovering what kind of work you enjoy.

You won’t be alone—there’s a whole team here to support you, including:

  • A Special Education Instructor
  • A Skills Trainer & Employment Specialist
  • South Dakota Department of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR)
  • Black Hills Special Services Cooperative
  • Participating local school districts

Your Strengths Lead the Way

Throughout the year, you’ll try out different tasks, build new skills, and learn more about yourself. At the end of the program, our team helps you look for a job that matches your interests and strengths. Project SEARCH is all about helping you grow, feel confident, and start your path to a bright future.
